Exterior of Sir Marmaduke's
Elizabethan Mansion at mid-day
Love is in the air. The lovely Aline and the
brave Alexis are getting betrothed today. Alexis believes a
philtre (potion) is necessary so all in the village will know the joys
of love. J. Wellington Wells, "dealer in magical spells," gets
carried away while concocting the love potion. A banquet ensues, with
the tea brewed by the Vicar and "enhanced" by the Sorcerer.
Everyone who tasted the tea/potion falls asleep until the second act.
